Steven and Josh Taylor are Father and Son, ok that picture was taken a while back, Josh is a little taller and Steven has less hair now. That snap was made when the training began. It’s unusual to find a Father and Son wedding photography team especially one with the credentials of this pair.
Even though in the right light (none at all) Steven doesn’t look old enough, he’s been doing all this for 36 years, he started when he was a fresh faced, 18 year old art student photographing weddings on Saturdays. When he finished Art school he went to work full time for his mentor, Ray Vincent in his Suffolk studio. Since then Steven has done nothing but photography, he’s worked in advertising, editorial, fine art and documentary fields and he taught the subject at Lancaster University. He has an MA in photography from DeMontfort University and has won loads of awards. He has been exhibited extensively including at the National Portrait Gallery.
As the picture illustrates, Josh showed an early interest in photography and throughout his childhood was exposed (sorry) to an extensive library of photographic influence. An eternal student, Josh has an enquiring mind. Digital photography is like second nature to him. Even though he was brought up shooting on film and printing in the darkroom, he really did stand on a chair to reach the dev trays, he has taken to electronic photography like a duck to water and hungrily consumes all that is released on any new development (whoops done it again).
When we say he’s an eternal student we really mean that. Following a degree in Contemporary Photographic Practice from 2006 to 2009, he’s off on another now. Josh is currently studying Film Criticism at Edge Hill University.
Steven and Josh Taylor really do love going to weddings, which is just as well because that, along with teaching other wedding photographers, is their full time occupation. They are genuinely passionate about photography and have a healthy curiosity for the human condition that drives their unique style of observational wedding photography.
